Brad Dinkins, founder and chairman of the Helping Hands Foundation, said the nonprofit had been planning to host its first-ever golf tournament at Golden Ocala for quite some time. But then, he said, some generous folks began donating notable items toward the organization’s fundraising efforts to help men, women and children facing homelessness and other difficult situations.
Thus, an auction/dinner was planned for the evening before the tournament — Nov. 29 — at Hilton Ocala. Dinkins said he was extremely pleased with the turnout and the financial results: About 150 people attended the dinner, 88 players participated in the golf tournament and $79,000 was raised for Helping Hands, which currently provides housing, counseling and other needed support for 45 people.
